Fishing Report 5/2/25

After a month hiatus we are back with another fishing report!

Beaverhead River: Even though the flows are still relatively low the fishing has been stellar! There is no shortage of hatches out of the Beaverhead right now! Fish have been starting to constantly rise which is great for all of you dry fly purists out there! The day typically starts with BWO’s in the morning and Mother’s Day Caddis in the afternoon, there has also been a few march browns and drakes flying around. Nymphing is still the best tactic as of right now but if you would like to throw dries, the opportunity is definitely there. Additionally, we are almost 2 weeks away from the summer water openers, this means that anglers will soon be able to fish the Upper Beaverhead river from the dam down to pipe organ! Expect there to be a flow bump in the next coming days as the weather is going to warm up to the 70’s for almost a week and irrigators in the area are now able to take water out of the river. With this warm weather expect the clarity to diminish below Grasshopper Creek.

Big Hole River: The Big Hole River has been providing some great fishing even with the flow bump that it has experienced in the last week from heavy rainfall. Attractor patterns such as san juans and rubberlegs have still been the way to go because of the high-ish water. The BWO’s and midges have still been the prevalent hatches, one could expect the Mother’s Day Caddis to start popping up in the next coming days! Expect the flows to start bumping even more as we are going to experience consistent sunny days in the next week. If you do not want to bother with the high flows, the Beaverhead is a great alternative.

As always, come into the shop to get the latest tips and hot bugs to hit the river.

We will see you soon!
