How High is the Water?
Unseasonably warm weather has the Big Hole on the rise and increased flow releases from Clark Canyon Dam on the Beaverhead River have us scrambling to check local conditions on a daily basis. As of an hour ago, the water is a little green but fishing well from Pipe Organ Bridge downstream through town. Angler reports from last night and today report good to excellent fishing on San Juan worms. A quick reminder that the upper Beaverhead from Clark Canyon Dam downstream to Pipe Organ Bridge opens this Saturday the 16th.
Beaverhead River – San Juan worms are taking a lot of fish on the Beav in addition to sparkle minnows. The water is a little green with the flows increased to 435 cfs, but the fish are responding well as they come out of the minimal flows of the winter. We always like burgundy colored worms in green water.
Big Hole River – The water continues to rise on the Big Hole with the warm weather. Three days out the temps drop and the river should be back in shape by the weekend. San Juan worms and yellow streamers are the flies of choice.
