The Beaverhead is fishing very well and the Big Bugs are close on the Big Hole
Last weekend’s steady rain and cooling temps caused the salmon fly nymphs to put the brakes on their annual journey to the banks and caused anglers in Southwest Montana anglers to take a long breath. High temperatures last week looked to set the hatch off, but rising water and falling water temps put it on hold. Best guess is this weekend.
Big Hole River – The salmon fly hatch may be on hold for now, but dropping water on the river made it fish better today than yesterday and it should improve even more every day from here on out for the next week. San Juan worms, streamers and Pat’s Rubber Legs are the flies of choice.
Beaverhead River – The Beaverhead is fishing very well. Flows are dropping from Clark Canyon Dam and the fish are responding favorably. Sow bugs, San Juan worms and a few small olive nymphs are all working.
