The Beaverhead is Clear
The Beaverhead River is clear out of Clark Canyon Reservoir as of this morning. We are still not 100 percent sure why it has gone off color twice in the last month. The flows are low, but the river is still floatable. Hoppers are showing up in good numbers and fish are eating crane flies in the morning and evenings on the stretches near town. We should see crane flies on the upper river any day. Dry/dropper combos with princes and or olive caddis pupa are catching fish. Streamers with large trailers are catching fish as well.
The Jefferson River will reopen to fishing tomorrow. Like most rivers in Montana, it could use some more water. Some rain has increased flows and it’s great to have our favorite fall river back in the loop. Hopper/dropper combos will work well until flows increase substantially.
Most of the Big Holer River is open to fishing. Please check the FWP website for details.
