The Beaverhead Returns
Clark Canyon Reservoir spit out some extremely silty water for a few days a week to 10 days ago. We could not get a solid answer from those that should know as to why this hiccup occurred. Our best guess is that once flows were reduced, the dam started pulling water from a different location causing the siltation and turbid water. The good news is that the river has returned to three plus feet of visibility and is fishing much better.
A different game is starting to shape up as we await the emergence of the much anticipated crane fly hatch. Indicators and drop shot rigs are still producing, but fish are eating strramers and large trailers equally as well or better below High Bridge. The larger fish are also beginning to dial in on crane fly larvae.
The stretches near Grasshopper and below Barrett’s are starting to produce some plus sized fish on hoppers as well. A much cooler weather trend should only see this getting better over the next ten days.
UPDATE: As of 6pm on the 11th, the water turned off color with very poor visibility near Clark Canyon Dam. The stretches from Grasshopper through town are still in good shape. We’ll update daily as conditions change.
