The PMDs are starting on the Beaverhead!

While the hatch hasn’t hit its stride yet, fish on the upper river are starting to eat some PMD nymphs.  We are seeing a few adults every day, and the fish are eating split backs and a few other patterns that mimic the most prevalent hatch of the summer.

Beaverhead River – The annual PMD hatch is just beginning.  The fish are hearing a number of her of PMD nymph patterns.  We aren’t seeing any fish on the surface yet, but that should follow in the near future,  Below High Bridge, small San Juan worms and several sow bug patterns are in play as well.

Big Hole River – There are a handful of salmon flies hanging around in the Dewey Canyon and enough golden stones to keep the dry fly fishing good with a little cloud cover,  Cold mornings recently have pushed the best fishing to mid-day and later.  The river is very on and off between cloudy and sunny conditions.
