Beaverhead River: The Beaverhead River PMD Hatch continues to provide great fishing! Flows are starting to decline ~10-15 cfs daily, with the current flows sitting at 711 cfs as of July 31st. The best fishing as of right now is from the dam to high bridge. Below high bridge, summer is making its presence known with weed growth starting to take its grip on the lower river. With the flows being this high, weeds are being released from the banks of the river and floating down, making a long-weed free drift nearly impossible. Streamers and Dry-droppers are the most effective technique below high bridge. Hot fly patterns this week include Sunkist, split backs, Crystal HBI’s, Parrots, and caddis pupas. As we approach the end of the PMD hatch, caddis will be the main bug on the menu for the fish on the upper. We are looking forward to hopper season here in Southwest Montana, seems like its slowly approaching this year. Things should be on the up and up for that. Additionally, we are anticipating the crane fly hatch on the Beaverhead River! That should happen within the next few weeks! Stay cool and most importantly stay fishy!
