Cool, Clear Water Continues on the Beaverhead

The water flowing from Clark Canyon is still cool and clear.  Fishing near the dam seems to be in a consistent pattern of fishing better towards mid morning.  PMDs are still hatching, with more on cloudy days.  There have been some epic spinner falls in the evening as of late for the dry fly enthusiasts.  Down river, heavy moss flows have let up allowing for some decent attractor dry and hopper fishing before the heat of the afternoon elevates water temps and the bite slows down.

Big Hole River – We could never have imagined this spring that the Big Hole would still be open let alone fishing well in the mornings by this point in the summer.  Frequent precipitation has the flows near the long term average.  We are eagerly awaiting the appearance of some spruce moths in the canyon portion of the river soon, but no sightings yet.  Small hopper/ drop rigs are the best bet.  We expect some further hoot owl restrictions as we enter the dog days of August.

Small Streams – An abundance of small mountain streams are fishing well.  We are thrilled every day with reports of great fishing on a number of mountain streams in the area.  Stop by the shop, we are always willing to point out a number of great options on the map to visiting anglers.
